The Frau Subirá house came to be as a wedding present from my great great grandparents, Asisclo Sergio Subirá y Ramíres de Arellano and María Beatriz Echevarria Alvarado, to their daughter Concepción on the event of her nuptuals to Manuel Antonio Frau de la Sierra on May 20, 1911.
To achieve this heartfelt gift, Don Asisclo first acquired the property on which the home would be built and then trusted it's design to the highly popular building designer Eng. Blas Silva Boucher and it’s construction to the well renowned foreman Elias Concepción. By November 13, 1911 the contract was signed that legalized the official transfer of this home as a gift to Concepción.
Since then, this property has served as a home to four generations of this family and still stands as the last proof of existence to one of the families that left an undeniable mark on the development and progress of Ponce as a city looking into the future.Their contributions included partaking in the foundation of schools, banks and even social clubs, as well as contributing to the city’s modernist architectural identity through the commision of homes for their three daughters and their families, the building of several summer homes as well as a relevant family mausoleum which still stands today at the old Catholic Cemetery.
